This week
This week has been quite a challenge for me. I just started student teaching with special ed students. The students are second grade with emotional, social and learning difficulties. The whole teaching style was so different to what I am use to. I am the type of teacher that when I say something I mean, for example if I say to a student this is your last chance, I mean it. But the head teacher of my student teaching class kept saying ' this is your last chance' and then she would give the students almost five to ten more chances. I just could not understand it. When I approached her in regards to this she said that with these students you have to do that because they just can not control themselves. I am so sorry but I can not understand this. If anyone has any insight about this matter, please do help.

Illiteracy in America!
I have to start by saying I never knew that there were so many illiterate people in America. After watching the clips of Monica I felt so sad knowing that there are so many more people just like her suffering out there not knowing that there is help they can get. At one point during the clip she said she felt like a prisoner in her own mind, it truly is like being a prisoner after hearing all the obstacles she had to go through. I also never knew that there are so many resources out there that can help people become literate. Thinkfinity, is a great site as it has many resources it offers in order to help people in this situation. It also offers many online courses, but I feel this may be hard for someone illiterate to navigate. Overall, I think it could be very helpful.
I think most of all I ma disappointed in the educators. Why are they missing all these struggling students. Is it that they just don't care? I mean if I have a student in my class who cant read I am able to see it, as I ma not blind. Some educators need to open their eyes.
